Choosing your wedding photographer is such a huge decision!
You are investing in the person who will capture all your other big decisions.
Venue: Finley Farms
The dress, the venue, the colors, the florals, the hair, the make-up, and all the personal touches. It is possible to assign a monetary value to all that, but the photographer also needs to capture all the moments—expected and unexpected—that make your wedding day something you never want to forget. And that is priceless.
When choosing the perfect wedding photographer, there are many things to consider. Most importantly, their photography style and editing process.
During your consultation, it’s crucial to openly discuss your preferences, including your interest in black and white wedding photos.
Whether you envision a few or a lot of them in your complete wedding photo gallery, your potential photographer should be able to understand and respect your wishes. Equally important, they should be able to articulate the role they believe black and white photos play in a wedding gallery, fostering mutual understanding and trust.
Here is what I want my couples to know about my love for black-and-white photography and its role in a complete wedding gallery.
Photography trends come and go, but black-and-white photos are forever. Every generation has precious memories captured this way, and you will, too. If you have wedding photos from your parents and grandparents, it is likely they could be in black and white. What a treasure to have these all side by side.
The contrast and lighting create instant elegance in your wedding gallery. Black and white wedding photos instantly elevates the level of sophistication and class. There is a simplicity and attention to detail that is unique. I love capturing jewelry and other accessories in black and white.
Black-and-white photos often beautifully highlight the emotional moments of your wedding day. The raw and genuine emotions take center stage in the absence of color. Every tear, every crinkle of a smile or a laugh is captured. It seems like everything else just falls away. THIS. IS. MY. FAVORITE. PART.
I find that at least one of my favorite black and white wedding photos in any wedding gallery is of the venue. The stark contrast of black and white highlights the lines and curves of all the beautiful architectural details of churches, chapels and reception spaces. Your venue has probably taken a lot of care and attention to detail and the camera will love it in black and white.
Indoors or outdoors, planned moments or the spontaneous ones -these can all be captured beautifully in black and white photography. I don’t believe you will regret putting at least a small focus of your complete gallery in black and white wedding photos.
The key to being thrilled with your wedding photos is to communicate clearly with your wedding photographer and ask for what you want. Look at examples of your photographer’s work so you can explain your likes and dislikes.
