The blurry wedding photo trend is here and it is not just for candid shots on Instagram.
Brides are asking for it.
Photographers have opinions about it.
Your mom may not like it.
And all of that is okay.
Of course, we are talking about intentional blur. Not the kind of blur that happens when you let your cousin try out their new camera on your big day. (Don’t do that!) Intentional blur is actually a result of artistic choices and creative mastery by your chosen photographer. But, let’s not do a deep dive into the technical side of how we make the magic happen. Let’s go straight to the fun part.
Why do brides want it? Well, it really makes total sense…
The blurry photo is romantic, ethereal, and dreamlike.
Will you ever have a day more romantic than this?
It captures movement, emotion and spontaneity.
Others feel that the blurry wedding photo trend has a documentary or photojournalistic feel, and that is why it appeals to them. I’ve even seen it described as having a “caught in the moment paparazzi vibe.” And to this I say…perfect! Because if there is ever a day you want documented or you want paparazzi…it’s your wedding day! You look great and you are surrounded by the ones you love.
Many in the photography industry credit the blur photo trend to photographer John Dolan. I love that he is described as having “an eye for the unconventional and ‘in-between’ moments that add color to this special day.”
I love the in-between moments, too!
The truth is, the blurry wedding photo trend is just a trend. They most likely will only make up a handful of photos in an expansive wedding photo gallery that captures your entire day. The planned, the unplanned and the in-between moments.
No matter what kind of wedding photos you want – blur or no blur – you need to choose a wedding photographer that you can talk to and connect with. A wedding photographer that will take the time to listen to what you want and what you don’t want. A wedding photographer that will share their work with you and make sure that they hear what YOU are saying.
